      When you are introduced to a hobby, a lot of things need to be explained up front: the rules, the environment, and so on. But a lot of things don't get explained, like, why should you be a part of the hobby? What do special terms mean? 

      It can be difficult for new people to understand why they should give roleplaying a try or what a game like Dungeons and Dragons has to offer because some of the most basic things that need explaining don't make it into the books. It is taken for granted that folks understand, or that they'll pick up certain knowledge by osmosis - but I know better.

      At first glance, roleplaying can seem like a horribly complicated hobby, and a strange one to boot. When we break it down, however, roleplaying becomes perfectly comprehensible and even more enjoyable.
