The Calendar for My First Campaign, Part I

As my first campaign developed, I took notes on dates that were important to the player characters, namely their birthdays, holy days, anniversaries, and children's birthdays. I then created a calendar with their special dates, the equinoxes, and the solstices for a simple reference I could use as the years rolled on, in and out of game. The players wanted to keep track of such things, too, so I printed out a copy for them to get their hands on while we played, and they used it all the time. Their characters regularly tried to celebrate these holidays, which created tighter bonds between them (as holidays are supposed to do).

I'm including it here because it was a big part of our game and serves as an example of an evolving prop that can enrich any campaign. It doesn't have to take long to set up a calendar for your game and it can make a real difference. If you're playing in the Forgotten Realms and want to make your own calendar easily, you can download my full version in Google Sheets and fill it in with your own entries. You can also change the colors, add images, or do whatever else you want to make it your own. If you want a live prop, print it out. If you want everyone to access it digitally, you can share the Google workbook with the group. If you adjust the share settings, anyone in the group will be able to add entries to it as the game proceeds.
